Lakers to Hire Former Heat Executive Eric Amsler as Assistant General Manager

The Los Angeles Lakers are hiring Eric Amsler, formerly of the Miami Heat, to serve as an assistant general manager focused on scouting and player development.

The Los Angeles Lakers are hiring longtime Miami Heat executive Eric Amsler as an assistant general manager, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday. Amsler joins the front office after serving as Miami’s vice president of player personnel and general manager for the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat's G League affiliate. His tenure in Miami spanned two decades, beginning as an intern during the 2004-05 season.

Lakers president of basketball operations and general manager Rob Pelinka indicated this specific role will focus on player draft and evaluation processes, including pro scouting, draft scouting, and player development. Amsler becomes the second assistant GM hired this offseason, following the May addition of Rohan Ramadas. Ramadas, a former New Orleans Pelicans staffer, was brought in to lead the team's salary cap, analytics, and strategy department.

This front office move represents the first major change since majority owner Mark Walter agreed to sell the franchise to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger in August. That transaction valued the team at $12.5 billion. Amsler’s background includes extensive experience in basketball operations, ranging from various scouting roles to personnel management.
