The 32-year-old Pro Bowler is currently entering the final season of a three-year, $64.5 million agreement signed in March 2024. Williams, who was acquired via a midseason trade from the New York Giants five months prior to that signing, now qualifies for an extension under the Seahawks' internal policy of only negotiating with players who have one year or less remaining on their current terms.

Williams has recorded 18 regular-season sacks during his two full seasons in Seattle, earning Pro Bowl honors in both campaigns and a second-team All-Pro selection in 2025. During the team's run to the Super Bowl LX championship last year, he added another sack in the postseason. These accolades follow a career that began as the sixth overall pick by the New York Jets in 2015, where he earned his first Pro Bowl nod in 2016.

Defensive Tackle Market Shifts

The landscape for interior defensive linemen changed significantly earlier Tuesday when the Philadelphia Eagles signed Jalen Carter to a four-year, $152 million extension. That deal established a new market high of $38 million per season in new money. In contrast, Williams’ current contract carries an average annual value of $21.5 million, a figure that now ranks 14th among all interior defensive linemen in the NFL.

Despite the financial shift, Williams stated he is prioritizing on-field performance over negotiations. "There's been a few conversations, but nothing set in stone," Williams noted during his Tuesday media availability. He expressed a desire to avoid the distractions that often affect players focusing heavily on their contract status, noting that such focus can lead to poor play.

Voted Top Defensive Tackle by League Personnel

In a recent offseason poll conducted by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Williams was ranked as the best defensive tackle in the NFL. The voting pool consisted of league executives, scouts, and coaches. One anonymous coordinator cited Williams as the most important player on Seattle's Super Bowl-winning roster. Williams acknowledged the recognition, stating that being honored by peers, coaches, and executives carries more weight than fan-based voting.

Williams credited the team's recent Super Bowl victory for bringing increased visibility to individual performances. He noted that while he has always maintained confidence in his abilities, the championship run helped shed light on his contributions later in his career.
