Luka Doncic posted 28 points and seven assists in a 127-105 Lakers win over the Warriors, marking the team's first game since LeBron James joined the 76ers.
The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 127-105 on opening night, led by Luka Doncic’s 28 points and seven assists. Center Walker Kessler finished with 12 made field goals on 12 attempts, the highest total without a miss for a Laker since 1969. Kessler also recorded 10 dunks during the victory. The contest marked the fourth time in six years these two franchises have met to open the season.
This matchup followed the departure of LeBron James, who signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Philadelphia 76ers after six seasons in Los Angeles. James debuted for Philadelphia on Tuesday, recording 14 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists in a road win against New York. Austin Reaves, now the longest-tenured Laker in his sixth season, returned to Los Angeles on a four-year, $180 million deal.
Doncic, who has been with the Lakers for 18 months, punctuated the performance with a half-court buzzer-beater to end the second quarter. The current Lakers roster features Bronny James in his third season and Jake LaRavia in his second. Before the game, Doncic addressed the home crowd directly and provided free parking and bike rides for fans attending the arena.
