England international Anna Moorhouse joins Manchester City on a short-term loan after recording 13 clean sheets during Orlando Pride's double-winning 2024 season.

Manchester City have secured the signing of England international goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse on a short-term loan deal from NWSL side Orlando Pride, effective until the end of January 2027. The 31-year-old shot-stopper arrives in Manchester following a 2024 campaign where she maintained a 13-game clean sheet record, helping Orlando clinch both the NWSL Championship and the NWSL Shield. Despite those accolades, Moorhouse has conceded 31 goals in 20 appearances this season, leading to her removal from the Pride's starting XI.

At the international level, Moorhouse was a member of Sarina Wiegman’s squad that won the 2025 Euros, though she did not see game time during the tournament. She currently holds two caps for the Lionesses and has maintained a clean sheet in every appearance for her country. Her move to the Women's Super League (WSL) champions comes as City prepares for a title defense and a return to European competition, filling a void left by Khiara Keating’s departure to Liverpool to play under former City manager Gareth Taylor.

Goalkeeping Depth and Roster Changes

Anna Moorhouse joins a goalkeeping department currently led by 30-year-old Japanese international Ayaka Yamashita. While Yamashita has served as the primary choice for some time, Moorhouse is expected to provide experienced cover as the club navigates multiple competitions ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Orlando Pride, who currently sit five points adrift of the final NWSL playoff spot, facilitated the move to support the player's desire to return to her home country.

Caitlin Carducci, Orlando Pride VP of soccer operations and general manager, stated that the club worked closely with Moorhouse to finalize the loan, citing the depth of their own goalkeeping group as a factor that allowed the move. Moorhouse described the transition to the English champions as a new challenge involving a different style of play, noting that the call from a club of Manchester City's stature was one she had to answer.

Transfer Window Developments and Failed Bids

While the Moorhouse deal was finalized, Manchester City’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Jennifer Echegini has ended without a signature. Sources confirmed that the deal will not proceed before the transfer window closes on Thursday night. City submitted several bids for the midfielder but remained unwilling to meet PSG’s valuation of £500,000. The club’s interest in Echegini intensified following a knee injury to Vivianne Miedema, which was confirmed to be unrelated to her previous ACL injury.

Under the direction of Andree Jeglertz, Manchester City’s summer transfer activity has included the additions of Beth Mead and Niamh Charles. The club also won a competitive race to sign young right-back Carlotta Wamser.
