Quarterback Marcus Mariota suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee during Washington's 30-13 defeat against the Indianapolis Colts.

Washington Commanders quarterback Marcus Mariota suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee during a 30-13 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Mariota sustained the injury when he was sacked by defensive tackle Adetomiwa Adebawore on a third-and-goal play from the 6-yard line. Before exiting, Mariota led two field goal drives to give Washington an early 6-0 lead.

Coach Dan Quinn stated on Monday that the timetable for Mariota's return is currently uncertain. In his absence, rookie Athan Kaliakmanis completed 15-of-33 passes for 183 yards, recording one touchdown and one interception. The injury is a recurrence of a sprain Mariota suffered during an August 14 preseason game against Miami.

Starting quarterback Jayden Daniels is scheduled to practice in full this week with the intention of starting Sunday against the New York Giants. Daniels has been sidelined recently due to a dislocated left elbow. The Commanders, now 1-3, are also monitoring the status of safety Nick Cross, right guard Sam Cosmi, and running back Rachaad White for potential returns.

Washington lost return specialist Jaylin Lane for the remainder of the season after he suffered a fractured and dislocated ankle on a kick return. Lane had been averaging 12.0 yards per punt return and 24.6 yards on kick returns in 2026. Additionally, receiver Terry McLaurin’s status for upcoming practices remains unclear after a hamstring injury kept him out of Sunday's contest.
