During a Monday practice session open to the media, players trained to a backdrop of loud nightclub music, a method Maresca previously utilized at Leicester City and Chelsea. While the manager noted he would personally choose different genres, he stated that the players select the tracks to improve their work environment.

City enters the European competition seeking a second title following their 2023 victory over Inter Milan. Defender Matheus Nunes confirmed the squad's support for the new approach, noting that several players aspire to be DJs. The upcoming trip to Porto marks a return to the site of the club's 2021 final loss to Chelsea. Maresca emphasized that despite the changed tournament format, the club's ambitions remain focused on winning games through their established identity.

Regarding squad fitness, Maresca confirmed that Jérémy Doku and Nico O'Reilly could return from injury for Sunday's Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
