Mariners Fire Manager Dan Wilson Following 76-86 Campaign

Seattle Mariners manager Dan Wilson will not return in 2027 after the club finished the season 76-86 and missed the playoffs.

The Seattle Mariners fired manager Dan Wilson on Sunday, hours after the team concluded its season with a 7-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Wilson, 57, departs with a 187-171 career managerial record after Seattle finished the year 76-86. The club was officially eliminated from postseason contention on Thursday and ended the schedule in third place in the American League West.

Seattle’s offensive production declined significantly from the previous year, dropping from ninth in the majors in runs per game in 2025 to last place at various points this season. Catcher Cal Raleigh, who finished second in AL MVP voting last year with 60 home runs and 125 RBIs, closed this campaign with 23 home runs and 69 RBIs. As of Sept. 4, Raleigh's WAR had dropped to 0.9 from a 7.2 mark the prior season.

After leading the Mariners to a 90-72 record and an AL West title last year, Wilson’s squad struggled through a 9-15 July. The team’s only winning month came in May, when they went 15-13. Mariners president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto stated that a new direction is required for the 2027 season. Wilson, a franchise Hall of Famer, indicated the organization has expressed interest in retaining him in a non-managerial capacity.
