Matt Fitzpatrick claimed his fourth title of the year on Sunday, finishing the French Open at 20 under par. The Englishman carded a 1-under 70 in the final round at Le Golf National to secure a three-stroke victory over Spaniard Angel Hidalgo, who shot a 67 to finish alone in second place. This win adds to Fitzpatrick's 2026 season successes at the Valspar Championship, the RBC Heritage, and the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he competed alongside his brother Alex.

Local favorite Tom Vaillant entered the final day in second position but dropped into a four-way tie for third after recording a 70. The tournament served as the opening event of "The Open Qualifying Series," with Hidalgo’s runner-up performance earning him a spot in the field for next year's Open at St. Andrews. The qualifying series is scheduled to continue next month at the Spanish Open.

Fitzpatrick noted he struggled through the first 12 holes of the final round before finding his form down the stretch. The victory follows the recent birth of his first child with his wife, Katherine. Despite his four wins this season, the golfer expressed disappointment regarding a missed cut at the Open Championship and his performance during the PGA Tour postseason.
