Kylian Mbappé scored in the 55th minute to secure a 1-0 victory for France against Türkiye on Friday, marking a winning debut for head coach Zinedine Zidane. The Real Madrid forward rifled a low shot into the net following an assist from Michael Olise, extending his national record to 67 goals. However, the Nations League match ended prematurely for the captain, who sat on the turf grimacing and rubbing his left knee immediately after the scoring strike.

According to ESPN, the French Football Federation confirmed Mbappé suffered a tendon injury and will miss the remainder of the international camp. Zidane noted that the player extended his knee while taking the shot, stating that the team would not take risks with his recovery. Although Mbappé was able to walk off the field under his own power, he was substituted for Désiré Doué after an initial attempt to remain in the game failed.

Zidane’s first starting lineup featured an attacking quartet of Mbappé and Olise on the wings, supported by Ousmane Dembélé and Rayan Cherki. France is scheduled to play three additional Nations League fixtures during this window, including two matches against Belgium and one against Italy. The French squad will proceed without their leading scorer as he returns to his club for further evaluation.
