Mike Evans recorded three receptions for 94 yards before an Achilles injury forced him out of the San Francisco 49ers' 23-17 win over the Washington Commanders.
The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Washington Commanders 23-17 on Monday night, but lost wide receiver Mike Evans to an Achilles injury during the second quarter. Evans had recorded three catches for 94 yards before departing the game just before halftime. The 49ers initially listed him as questionable to return but officially ruled him out early in the third quarter.
The injury occurred with 1:10 remaining in the first half following a 16-yard reception from quarterback Brock Purdy. After being touched down by Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves, Evans remained on the turf to stretch his right leg. Team medical staff assisted him to his feet and helped him walk to the locker room.
Coach Kyle Shanahan stated after the game that the injury involved the same Achilles soreness that had limited Evans during the week's practice. Evans also entered the contest recovering from broken ribs. Despite the setback, Shanahan indicated he does not believe the receiver will require additional testing on the Achilles. Following the departure of Evans, San Francisco relied on a receiving corps of Jordan Watkins, Brandin Cooks, Jacob Cowing, and Malik Turner.
