Mourinho Retains Endrick at Real Madrid Citing Goalscoring Qualities

Jose Mourinho blocked a summer transfer for 20-year-old forward Endrick, citing the Brazilian's potential to reach Real Madrid's level.

Real Madrid manager José Mourinho confirmed he blocked a summer transfer for Endrick, 20, following the forward's loan spell at Lyon during the second half of last season. Speaking to TNT Brazil on Monday, Mourinho stated the former Palmeiras player remained at the Bernabéu due to his versatility and goalscoring abilities. The Portuguese coach noted that Endrick, who participated in his first World Cup this summer, is currently in a transitional phase and will work under Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti to continue his development.

Endrick is currently limited to five or ten minutes of play as he recovers from a muscular injury that caused him to miss Madrid's first four league matches. His last competitive appearance was an August friendly against Austria, and he completed his first full team training session on Sunday. Mourinho indicated the forward is not yet fit for extended action ahead of the club's Champions League fixture against Inter Milan.

Regarding other squad members, Mourinho addressed the form of Vinícius Júnior, who has recorded one goal and two assists across four league games this season. Vinícius played the full 90 minutes in Friday's 1-0 loss to Real Betis but did not score. Mourinho described the winger as one of the best in the world but noted he has not yet reached the top of his form following the start of the campaign.
