During his last term at the San Siro, Allegri’s squad maintained a position in the top three from Matchday 2 through Matchday 37, yet a late-season collapse involving only two victories in the final eight fixtures resulted in the club missing Champions League qualification.

Allegri Addresses Milan Exit and Failure Label

Addressing the media on Tuesday, the new Napoli coach Allegri clarified that he is not seeking redemption despite his May dismissal. The owners of AC Milan characterized his final season as an "unequivocal failure" after the team fell out of the top four for the first time in his coaching career, which includes previous stints at Juventus and Milan. Allegri noted that the disappointment of finishing outside the Champions League spots has weighed on him, specifically because the team occupied a title-contending position for the majority of the year before the Matchday 38 drop.

Following his departure, Milan appointed Ruben Amorim as his successor. During Amorim's introduction, team owner Gerry Cardinale emphasized a preference for coaches who play to win rather than playing not to lose.
