Brooklyn natives Vance and Yvonne Bradford named their son Knickson Fyve following the New York Knicks' Game 5 victory to clinch the NBA title.
Vance and Yvonne Bradford named their newborn son Knickson Fyve to commemorate the New York Knicks winning their first NBA championship in over a half-century. The name is a direct reference to the "Knicks in five" chant that erupted throughout New York City after the team clinched the title on June 13. According to ESPN, the couple—both native Brooklynites from Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights—finalized the name two days after the championship-winning Game 5.
The Knicks secured the title behind a 45-point performance from point guard Jalen Brunson. This victory has influenced local naming trends, with one report indicating that 32 babies were named Jalen in New York City between March and early October 2026. This figure represents more than double the 15 infants given that name during the same period in 2025.
While the first name is pronounced "Nixon," the full name Knickson Fyve was chosen to reflect the specific impact of the team hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy. Vance Bradford noted that the atmosphere in the city changed significantly following the win, prompting the couple to move away from more conventional middle name options. He expressed expectations that his son may eventually share classrooms with other children named after players like Brunson or Karl-Anthony Towns.
