The former RB Salzburg and Al Ahli manager arrives on a four-year contract, with the Magpies reportedly paying a compensation fee exceeding £9 million ($12 million) to secure his release from the Saudi Pro League side. Jaissle’s tenure begins just 18 days before the 2026-27 Premier League season kicks off against Liverpool at St James' Park on August 23.

Jaissle has already integrated with the squad, meeting players at their preseason training camp in La Manga, Spain, over the weekend. His first official match on the touchline is scheduled for August 8 in a preseason friendly against Valencia at the Mestalla. The German coach arrives with a trophy-laden resume, having secured back-to-back Austrian league titles with RB Salzburg before winning successive Asian Champions League trophies during his tenure at Al Ahli.

Transition from the Eddie Howe Era

The appointment follows the Friday resignation of Eddie Howe, who ended a stint of nearly five years on Tyneside. Howe originally took the reins in November 2021, shortly after the takeover by Amanda Staveley’s consortium. During his leadership, Newcastle avoided relegation and eventually secured a return to Champions League football.
