This global push begins as the San Francisco 49ers face the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 10 in the first regular-season game ever hosted in Australia. While the matchup kicks off on Sept. 10 U.S. time, the game takes place on Sept. 11 local time, featuring "Never Forget" stenciled into the end zone to commemorate the date.

Since its domestic launch in 2017, the NFL has provided nearly $575 million in financial support to thousands of partners and nonprofit organizations. This funding is distributed across four core pillars: education, economic advancement, police and community relations, and criminal justice reform. The league aims to bring this community impact work to global markets under a shared platform that creates access to opportunity for underserved youth in regions where teams are playing or setting up roots through the global markets program.

Global Expansion and Pilot Programs

Anna Isaacson, the NFL’s senior vice president of social responsibility, confirmed that the international expansion will not impact existing social justice work within the United States. The decision to go global follows a pilot program launched last season in several countries that hosted international games. The league now intends to unify that outreach under the Inspire Change brand to extend its reach across many countries and regions.

Isaacson noted that the initiative is designed to be reflective of the specific countries and cities where the work is happening. Individual clubs and the league will lead different efforts depending on the location, focusing on breaking down barriers to opportunity. The priority remains reaching underserved youth in areas where the NFL is actively expanding its footprint.

The expansion focuses on taking a platform that has been successful domestically and applying it to international markets.
