NFL Preseason Trades: Myles Garrett Joins Rams as A.J. Brown Heads to Patriots

Blockbuster NFL preseason trades sent Myles Garrett to the Rams and A.J. Brown to the Patriots as teams finalize 2026 rosters.

The 2026 NFL preseason landscape shifted significantly on June 1 with two massive transactions involving All-Pro talent. The Cleveland Browns traded two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round selection. Simultaneously, the Philadelphia Eagles dealt wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots for a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, which will be the higher of New England’s two selections in that round. Brown, who turns 29 on June 30, reunites with head coach Mike Vrabel to provide quarterback Drake Maye a primary target alongside free agent Romeo Doubs.

On August 29, the Pittsburgh Steelers moved 2023 first-round pick Broderick Jones to the Dallas Cowboys. In this swap, Dallas received the offensive tackle and a 2027 fourth-round pick while Pittsburgh acquired 2027 third- and sixth-round selections. Jones recently returned to training camp practice following a neck injury sustained in Week 12 of the previous season. The Kansas City Chiefs also bolstered their front line on the same day by acquiring undrafted rookie offensive tackle Diego Pounds from the Baltimore Ravens for a contingent 2027 or 2028 Day 3 pick.

Quarterback and Skill Position Movements

The Jacksonville Jaguars addressed their depth chart on August 29 by acquiring second-year quarterback Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins for a 2028 sixth-round pick. Miami remained active in the trade market, previously executing a deal on August 27 that sent wide receiver Tutu Atwell back to the Los Angeles Rams. In return, the Dolphins received running back Jarquez Hunter. Atwell had originally signed a one-year free agent deal with Miami in March after spending four seasons in Los Angeles.

New England continued to reshape its roster on August 29 by trading a 2028 seventh-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for running back Corey Kiner. This followed an August 24 transaction where the Patriots sent wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. The Texans, seeking help after Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL in joint practices with the Raiders, sent safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick to New England to finalize the deal.

Offensive Line Reinforcements

The Kansas City Chiefs added depth to their interior line on August 25 by trading a 2028 seventh-round pick to the New York Giants for guard Joshua Ezeudu. A former 2022 third-round pick, Ezeudu brings experience at both guard and tackle. The Giants made a separate move on August 19, sending 6-foot-8, 380-pound guard Daniel Faalele to the Jacksonville Jaguars for an undisclosed late-round 2027 pick. Earlier in the summer, the Atlanta Falcons acquired offensive tackle Wanya Morris and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the Chiefs on June 11 for a 2027 sixth-round pick. Morris, 25, started 16 games over three years in Kansas City, including 11 starts at left tackle in 2024. Atlanta sought tackle depth following the sudden retirement of Kaleb McGary. On August 10, the Patriots traded offensive lineman Caedan Wallace and a 2029 seventh-round pick to the Dolphins for a 2028 sixth-round selection.

Defensive and Special Swaps

On August 23, the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers completed a veteran player swap. The Saints sent linebacker Deion Jones to the 49ers in exchange for running back Zamir White. This trade addressed specific positional needs for both franchises as they approached the start of the regular season. Every transaction listed occurred as teams trimmed rosters toward the final 53-man limit ahead of the 2026 kickoff.
