Former Pro Bowl cornerback DeAngelo Hall returns to the Carolina Panthers coaching staff with 10 games remaining in the 2026 season.
The Carolina Panthers announced Monday the hiring of DeAngelo Hall as cornerbacks coach for the final 10 games of the 2026 season. This move follows the firings of defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero and defensive passing game coordinator Jonathan Cooley last week. Hall, 42, previously served as the team's assistant defensive backs coach from 2023 to 2024.
Interim defensive coordinator Todd Wash, who was promoted from defensive line coach by Dave Canales on Friday, will now oversee a room managed by Hall. The two coaches previously worked together on Evero’s staff starting in 2023. Hall’s appointment comes as the Panthers struggle with significant injuries at the cornerback position entering Week 9.
Starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn (quad) and Mike Jackson (groin) are currently on injured reserve, alongside special teams player Akayleb Evans (triceps). Rookie Will Lee III, who had been starting in their absence, sustained a hamstring injury during last week's loss to the Green Bay Packers. The only healthy cornerbacks remaining on the 53-man roster are 2024 fifth-round pick Chau Smith-Wade and Malcolm DeWalt.
To address the depth shortage, Carolina elevated Marco Wilson from the practice squad to start against Green Bay. The team currently carries five additional cornerbacks on the practice squad: Zion Childress, DeVonta Smith, Corey Thornton, Robert Rochell, and Caelan Carson.
