The New England Patriots placed veteran wide receiver Mack Hollins on injured reserve Saturday due to a calf injury. Hollins, who leads the team with 15 receptions and 209 receiving yards, exited last Sunday’s victory against the Buffalo Bills in the third quarter after hopping off the field on his right foot. The 10th-year veteran had seen an increased workload following a season-opening high-ankle sprain to No. 1 target A.J. Brown, who is eligible to return from IR next week.
New England (2-2) enters Sunday’s 1 p.m. home game against the 3-1 Las Vegas Raiders with only four receivers on the active roster: Romeo Doubs, DeMario Douglas, Efton Chism III, and Kyle Williams. In a corresponding move, the club also placed veteran fullback Reggie Gilliam on injured reserve, marking the 19th player the team has sidelined on IR this season.
To address depth concerns, the Patriots signed seven-year veteran cornerback Kindle Vildor to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. The move follows the team ruling out four cornerbacks for Sunday, including starters Christian Gonzalez and Carlton Davis III. Additionally, special teams ace Brenden Schooler was activated from the non-football injury list, while linebacker K.J. Britt and rookie safety Elliott Davison were elevated from the practice squad.
