Pete Alonso Reaches 300 Home Runs in Orioles' 11-Inning Win Over Mets

Pete Alonso hit his 300th career home run to tie the game in the ninth inning before Baltimore secured a 7-5 victory in the 11th.

The Baltimore Orioles defeated the New York Mets 7-5 in 11 innings on Tuesday night at Citi Field. Pete Alonso forced extra innings by hitting his 300th career home run, a 414-foot solo drive off Kodai Senga with one out in the ninth inning to tie the score at 3-3. Coby Mayo eventually secured the Baltimore victory with an inside-the-park home run in the 11th inning.

Alonso, who signed with the Orioles in December after hitting 264 home runs for New York, received a curtain call from the crowd of 28,097 following his milestone blast. He is the third player in MLB history to hit his 300th home run against a team he played at least 1,000 games for, joining Willie Horton and Torii Hunter. The home run ball caromed off the second deck in left field before being recovered by three fans, who later exchanged the ball for signed bats, balls, and jerseys.

Sean Manaea started the game for the Mets, while rookie Jonah Tong pitched in relief during the series. The victory moved Baltimore to three games behind Cleveland for the final American League playoff spot. Following Alonso's ninth-inning home run and subsequent curtain call, Mets fans directed chants of "Fire Stearns" toward president of baseball operations David Stearns.
