Pochettino Debuts Eight Teenagers in 4-1 USMNT Victory Over Peru

The United States defeated Peru 4-1 in Orlando as 11 players made their international debuts, including 16-year-old starter Cavan Sullivan.

The United States Men’s National Team defeated Peru 4-1 in Orlando behind goals from Justin Ellis, Julian Hall, Malik Tillman, and Sebastian Berhalter. While Gianluca Lapadula equalized early for Peru, the U.S. secured the win in the second half. Tillman’s goal came via a penalty won by Mathis Albert. The match featured 11 international debuts for the U.S., including eight teenagers.

Sixteen-year-old Philadelphia Union attacker Cavan Sullivan became the second-youngest starter in USMNT history, playing 62 minutes. Other debutantes included Albert, Peyton Miller, Zavier Gozo, Diego Kochen, Brooklyn Raines, Neil Pierre, Frankie Westfield, and Adri Mehmeti. Manager Mauricio Pochettino credited captain Tyler Adams and the 13 returning World Cup veterans for guiding the newcomers during the week of training.

The U.S. roster currently features 13 players from the squad that reached the round of 16 in the previous World Cup. Following this result, the team will continue its international window with three upcoming friendlies against Chile, Mexico, and Canada.
