Paris Saint-Germain handed Barcelona their first defeat of the season in a 4-2 result that ended the Spanish side's 11-game winning streak.
Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2 on Wednesday at the Parc des Princes, ending the Spanish club's perfect 11-game winning start to the season. Desiré Doué, Lucas Hernández, Vitinha, and Fabián Ruiz all scored for the French side to secure their third consecutive Champions League victory. Barcelona twice leveled the score through goals from Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal before conceding two late goals to the back-to-back European champions.
Coach Hansi Flick attributed the loss to fatigue and ball possession errors, noting that the team's travel from Seville was disrupted by storms following a Saturday win against Real Betis. Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García performed despite the scoreline, while midfielder Dani Olmo was forced off in the first half due to injury. Flick opted to start Marc Bernal over Rodri, though the latter entered the match for the final 30 minutes to manage his workload ahead of the upcoming domestic schedule.
PSG coach Luis Enrique credited his team’s high press for creating early scoring opportunities and overcoming a 15-minute period of Barcelona dominance in the second half. The result prevents Barcelona from extending a winning streak that had tied the record for the longest start by a Spanish club. Barcelona now prepares for a Sunday Clásico against Real Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou, where a victory would move them nine points clear in LaLiga.
