Rams Land Myles Garrett for Jared Verse and 2027 First-Round Pick

Myles Garrett joins the Rams in a blockbuster deal involving Jared Verse and a 2027 first-rounder, while A.J. Brown moves to the Patriots.

The Los Angeles Rams acquired edge rusher Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick. Garrett arrives in Los Angeles as the reigning Defensive Player of the Year after breaking the NFL single-season sack record. He has earned first-team All-Pro honors in five of the last six seasons and has recorded at least 12.0 sacks annually during that span. Over the past four years, Garrett ranks second only to Micah Parsons in both pass rush win rate and pass rush wins.

In another high-profile move, the New England Patriots traded a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for wide receiver A.J. Brown. Brown, who turns 29 later this month, averaged 2.3 yards per route run last season despite a production dip to 1,003 receiving yards over 15 games. He previously recorded nearly 1,500 yards in both 2022 and 2023. Between 2021 and 2024, Brown consistently ranked in the top five of ESPN’s open score metric, including a perfect 99 in 2021. He is scheduled to earn $28.75 million in 2026, $21 million in 2027, and $32 million in 2028.

Cowboys Acquire Broderick Jones from Steelers

The Dallas Cowboys addressed their offensive line by trading 2027 third- and sixth-round picks to the Pittsburgh Steelers for tackle Broderick Jones and a 2027 fourth-round pick. Jones, a 2023 first-round selection out of Georgia, struggled during the 2025 season with a pass block win rate that ranked 65th out of 68 qualifying tackles through the first 11 weeks. A neck injury in Week 12 ended his 2025 campaign, and reports from April indicated setbacks during his recovery.

Jones returned for the 2026 training camp but played into the fourth quarter of a Thursday preseason game before the trade. The Steelers replaced him by drafting Max Iheanachor in the first round of the 2026 draft to play alongside left tackle Troy Fautanu. In Dallas, Jones joins a unit featuring Tyler Guyton and Terence Steele, the latter of whom is under contract through 2028. Jones previously developed his skill set at right tackle during his final two collegiate seasons at Georgia.

Rams Bring Back Tutu Atwell in Swap with Dolphins

On August 27, the Rams reacquired wide receiver Tutu Atwell from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for running back Jarquez Hunter. Atwell previously signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Rams but managed only 192 receiving yards and 1.4 yards per route run last season while running routes on just 35% of dropbacks. After the Rams let him walk, he signed a $1.4 million contract with Miami but failed to secure a role against a depth chart featuring Malik Washington and Jalen Tolbert.

The Rams' current receiving corps includes Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, followed by Jordan Whittington and CJ Daniels. The Dolphins receive Hunter, a 2025 fourth-round pick who did not record a single carry last season while playing behind Blake Corum. Hunter now joins a Miami backfield competition with Jaylen Wright and Ollie Gordon II.

Texans Add Kayshon Boutte to Receiving Corps

The Houston Texans traded safety Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick to the New England Patriots for wide receiver Kayshon Boutte on August 24. Houston made the move following a season-ending ACL tear suffered by Jayden Higgins. In 2025, Boutte led all receivers with at least 300 routes by running a go route or deep fade on 31% of his snaps, significantly higher than Higgins' 18% rate. Boutte also averaged 1.6 yards per route run during his 2025 breakout.

Reed, a 2025 sixth-round pick, joins New England after playing 73 defensive snaps in seven games last year. He spent roughly two-thirds of those snaps as a nickel or box safety. Additionally, the Atlanta Falcons acquired tackle Wanya Morris and a 2027 seventh-round pick from the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2027 sixth-round pick on June 11. Morris, a 2023 third-rounder, has a career 89.3% pass block win rate and started 16 games over three seasons before a knee injury on the first snap of a 2025 game sidelined him. He will compete with Jawaan Taylor, who signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Atlanta.
