Cal Quantrill was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday after exiting his start against Toronto following just four batters and 12 pitches.

The American League West-leading Texas Rangers placed right-handed pitcher Cal Quantrill on the 15-day injured list Sunday. The move follows Quantrill’s early exit during Saturday’s game, where he departed in the second inning after facing four batters and throwing 12 pitches due to right lat tightness. Manager Skip Schumaker noted that the team observed a drop in the 31-year-old's velocity prior to his removal by pitching coach Jordan Tiegs and head trainer Matt Lucero.

Quantrill, who joined Texas on a minor league deal, currently holds a 9-5 record with a 2.86 ERA across 32 appearances, including 15 starts. Over his last 11 outings, he posted a 1.75 ERA, allowing 11 earned runs in 56⅔ innings. This injury follows a previous start last Sunday at Arizona, which he left after six innings and 70 pitches due to back soreness.

To fill the roster spot, the Rangers recalled right-hander Winston Santos from Triple-A Round Rock ahead of the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays. Santos previously made his major league debut on July 1 at Cleveland, where he surrendered two runs in two innings. In the minor leagues this season, he has recorded 103 strikeouts over 83⅓ innings. Additionally, the Rangers scratched right fielder Brandon Nimmo from Sunday's starting lineup because of illness.
