James Reimer was placed on waivers Thursday following a 20-minute appearance where he surrendered three goals on eight shots against Los Angeles.

The New York Rangers placed goaltender James Reimer on waivers Thursday, November 5, 2026. The 38-year-old's stint with the club lasted just one start on October 26, a home loss to Los Angeles in which he was pulled after the first period. During those 20 minutes of play, Reimer allowed three goals on eight shots. If he is not claimed by another NHL team, the Rangers may assign him to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

New York originally signed Reimer to provide relief for Dylan Garand, who has started 11 consecutive games following a season-ending knee injury to Igor Shesterkin. Garand’s performance has fluctuated during this stretch; he recorded a 1.85 goals-against average and .929 save percentage through his first six appearances, but those numbers shifted to a 3.50 GAA and .877 save percentage over his last five games.

The roster move coincides with the potential return of Joonas Korpisalo from a lower-body injury. Korpisalo, who was acquired from Boston during the summer, completed a rehab start with Hartford on Wednesday night, stopping 34 of 37 shots. His initial injury during the first week of the season prompted Garand's recall from the AHL.
