Rashee Rice Lawsuit: Chiefs WR Sued for $1M Over Alleged 18-Month Assault Span

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice is the subject of a civil lawsuit filed Monday in Texas by ex-girlfriend Dacoda Jones, who seeks more than $1 million in damages. The legal filing alleges Rice repeatedly assaulted Jones over an 18-month period spanning from 2023 to 2025. Jones, the mother of Rice’s two children, claims she was pregnant during many of these reported incidents. The Rashee Rice lawsuit specifically cites a December 2023 event where the NFL player allegedly strangled her, marking the beginning of a pattern of abusive behavior that reportedly continued in both Missouri and Texas until July 2025.

According to the court documents, the physical violence involved Rice grabbing, choking, pushing, throwing, scratching, hitting, and headbutting Jones. The suit further details that Rice utilized inanimate objects to strike her. Beyond direct physical contact, the plaintiff alleges the receiver destroyed property, punched walls, and broke furniture. Jones also claims Rice locked her out of their shared apartment during the night. The requested damages cover physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment, disfigurement, and loss of earnings, in addition to previous and future medical expenses.

Specific Allegations and Instagram Evidence

Evidence cited in the case includes photos Jones posted to Instagram last month before deleting them. These images displayed a bruised lip, bruising on her chest and legs, and scratches across her face and shoulders. The social media posts also depicted various items of damaged property. In her captions, Jones identified her alleged abuser as the father of her children and stated she had endured eight years of difficulty, noting that life became "nothing but hell" following their 2025 breakup.

Legal representatives for Rice have countered these claims by referencing a sworn Affidavit for Non-Prosecution. Attorney Sean Lindsey stated that on October 9, 2025, Jones signed a document under penalty of perjury asserting that while she and Rice had a verbal argument, he did not punch her. This affidavit was signed well after the relationship had concluded. Lindsey indicated the defense will allow the legal process to proceed without further immediate comment.

NFL Investigation and League Status

The National Football League confirmed on Wednesday that the matter remains under review. The league initially launched an investigation after the social media allegations surfaced. The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday acknowledging the lawsuit and confirming they remain in communication with the NFL regarding the receiver's status. While Jones' attorneys have declined to comment, messages sent to Rice and his agents by ESPN have not been returned.

Records requests submitted to police departments in Dallas and Kansas City have not yet yielded results. It is currently unconfirmed if law enforcement was ever dispatched to the residences where the couple lived during the alleged domestic violence incidents. This civil litigation adds to a growing list of legal complications for the Chiefs' wideout, who has already faced significant disciplinary action from the league office.

Previous Legal History and 2024 Crash Details

In 2025, Rice pleaded guilty to felony collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. These charges stemmed from a multicar crash in Dallas in May 2024. Data from that incident revealed Rice was driving 119 mph immediately prior to the collision. As a result of the guilty plea, he received a sentence of 30 days in jail and five years of probation.

Financial penalties from the 2024 highway incident included a court order to pay more than $115,000 in restitution to the victims. The NFL previously suspended Rice for six games during the last season for violating the personal conduct policy related to the Dallas crash. This new civil suit regarding the 18-month span of alleged assaults represents a separate legal track from his prior criminal convictions and subsequent league discipline. The NFL's personal conduct policy allows for further sanctions if the current allegations of domestic violence are substantiated through their internal review process.
