The Tampa Bay Rays evened the ALCS on Saturday with a 7-3 victory fueled by a 6-for-14 performance from their top three hitters.
The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 on Saturday at Progressive Field to tie the American League Championship Series at two games apiece. Junior Caminero, Yandy Diaz, and Jonathan Aranda combined to go 6-for-14 with five RBIs. Diaz capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the ninth inning, his first of the postseason, while Aranda finished 3-for-4 after entering the contest hitless in his previous 10 at-bats.
In the seventh inning, Aranda hit a single that scored two runs after Guardians right fielder Chase DeLauter committed an error by letting the ball roll under his glove. Aranda reached third on the play and subsequently scored on a Chandler Simpson sacrifice fly. Caminero added an RBI double in the sixth inning, following a third-inning flyout that traveled 410 feet with a 110.7 mph exit velocity.
Nick Martinez earned the win by allowing one run on two hits across 5⅓ innings. Freddy Peralta provided relief in the sixth, throwing nine pitches to escape a jam, while Ian Seymour allowed two runs on four hits in the seventh. Kevin Kelly, Cam Booser, and Bryan Baker combined for the final two scoreless innings. The Rays struck out seven times as a team, an improvement from the 13 strikeouts recorded in their Game 3 loss.
The series continues Sunday afternoon with Tampa Bay ace Drew Rasmussen facing Cleveland rookie left-hander Parker Messick in Game 5. The winner will hold a 3-2 lead heading into Game 6 in Florida on Monday.
