Real Madrid called for the immediate resignation of LaLiga president Javier Tebas following his social media post comparing club media tactics to Joseph Goebbels.
Real Madrid issued a formal statement on Friday demanding the immediate resignation of LaLiga president Javier Tebas. The demand follows a social media post by Tebas that compared the club’s efforts to discredit match officials with the propaganda techniques used by Joseph Goebbels in Nazi Germany. Tebas specifically criticized Real Madrid TV for airing reels of alleged errors by referees assigned to upcoming matches for the 15-time European champions.
Tebas claimed the club uses an "orchestra of mouthpieces" to repeat scripts that increase suspicion and name enemies. While he clarified that his comparison referred to techniques rather than ideology or fans, the club labeled his conduct a "scourge for Spanish football." Madrid's executive leadership argued that these remarks demonstrate a lack of neutrality and impartiality required for his institutional role.
This conflict follows a previous demand for Tebas to step down in September after he criticized the club's reaction to a 2-1 loss against Atlético Madrid. The 36-time Spanish league champions also reiterated grievances regarding Tebas's handling of the judicial probe into Barcelona’s alleged payments to a refereeing committee official. Coach José Mourinho has also previously voiced complaints regarding the impact of officiating on the club.
