Sources: Cavan Sullivan to Join USMNT for September International Window

Cavan Sullivan, 16, has earned his first USMNT call-up for upcoming matches against Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Canada.

Philadelphia Union attacker Cavan Sullivan has earned a call-up to the United States Men’s National Team for the September/October FIFA international window, sources told ESPN. The 16-year-old is expected to join the squad for a four-match slate against Peru, Chile, Mexico, and Canada, with the first fixture scheduled for Sept. 26 in Orlando, Florida. An official roster announcement is slated for Sept. 17, and players will report to the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Atlanta on Sept. 20.

Sullivan enters the international window following a 5-0 victory over San Diego FC on Sunday, a match in which he recorded two goals and one assist. The Philadelphia native has produced goal contributions in seven consecutive league appearances, totaling nine goals and 15 assists across all competitions this season. His recent form includes six goals and eight assists since the conclusion of the MLS break for the World Cup.

If Sullivan appears in any of the upcoming matches, he will become the second-youngest player to debut for the USMNT, trailing only Freddy Adu, who debuted at 16 years and 243 days old. Sullivan, who turns 17 on Sept. 28, already holds the record for the youngest player to appear in a major professional sports league in the U.S. and Canada, having made his MLS debut on July 17, 2024, at 14 years and 293 days.

U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino selected the attacker following his rise through the Union's homegrown system. Sullivan signed his first-team contract on May 9, 2024, at age 14, a deal that includes a clause for a transfer to Manchester City when he turns 18 in 2027.
