Patri Guijarro scored in the 3rd minute and Eva Navarro added a goal in the 14th to secure a 2-0 win for Spain over the USWNT.

Spain defeated the United States 2-0 on Saturday in Washington, behind goals from Patri Guijarro in the 3rd minute and Eva Navarro in the 14th minute. Guijarro opened the scoring with a strike from outside the penalty area that beat goalkeeper Claudia Dickey, while Navarro doubled the lead by volleying home a cross from Salma Paralluelo. The result marked the first of two scheduled meetings between the reigning World Cup champions and the reigning Olympic gold medalists.

Adriana Nanclares preserved the clean sheet by stopping a second-half penalty kick taken by Lily Yohannes. The Spanish goalkeeper also deflected a long-distance shot from Sophia Wilson off the crossbar. Earlier in the match, Alyssa Thompson bypassed Nanclares but saw her shot blocked by a defender.

The U.S. had a goal disallowed following a video review after Trinity Rodman appeared to assist Wilson. Both teams played without key starters, as Spain was missing Aitana Bonmatí and the United States competed without defenders Naomi Girma and Emily Sonnett. The two sides are scheduled to play again on Tuesday night near Philadelphia.
