Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is headed to injured reserve after aggravating a foot injury during a Wednesday practice session.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are placing wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. on injured reserve, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Saturday. Head coach Mike McCarthy stated on Thursday that the 29-year-old aggravated a foot injury during Wednesday's practice and is expected to miss multiple weeks. The receiver, who has been battling plantar fasciitis in his left foot, was observed using a scooter in the locker room following the midweek session to avoid placing weight on the limb.

Pittman has recorded seven receptions on 12 targets for 89 yards during his first season in Pittsburgh. The veteran previously missed a Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots due to the same foot issue and was sidelined for a significant portion of training camp with a separate, undisclosed injury. This roster move occurs just before the Steelers are scheduled to face Pittman's former team, the Indianapolis Colts, on Sunday.

Pittsburgh acquired the 2020 second-round pick from the Colts in March via a late-round pick swap before signing him to a three-year, $59 million contract extension. During his six-year tenure in Indianapolis, Pittman achieved two 1,000-yard seasons. His placement on injured reserve requires him to miss a minimum of four games.
