Caiya Hanks rescued a point for Portland in a 2-2 draw with Bay FC on Sunday as Sophia Wilson served the first of a two-game ban.
Portland Thorns FC played to a 2-2 draw against Bay FC on Sunday, with Caiya Hanks scoring a late equalizer to secure a point. The result followed a 67th-minute strike from Kennedy Fuller that had briefly put Bay FC ahead. Portland forward Sophia Wilson was absent for the match, serving the first of a two-game suspension for violent conduct.
The draw leaves the Thorns in seventh place with 44 points and one regular-season match remaining. Portland has now dropped an NWSL-leading 23 points from winning positions this season. The result keeps them ahead of the chasing Seattle Reign and North Carolina Courage in the race for the final postseason berths.
Portland will conclude their regular season against the eighth-placed Courage on October 23. Wilson is scheduled to miss that Friday fixture as she completes her two-game ban. In other Sunday action, the Orlando Pride defeated the Houston Dash 2-1, a result that effectively eliminated both of those clubs from playoff contention.
