The South African golfer finished regulation tied with Casey at 18-under 262 before clinching the victory with an 18-foot birdie putt. This result denied the 49-year-old Englishman his first professional win in five years. Lawrence now joins an elite group as the seventh player to win this event three times, a feat not achieved since Seve Ballesteros.

Dramatic Final Round at Crans Montana

Casey entered the final day in Switzerland holding a three-shot lead, but his 2-under 68 was not enough to hold off Lawrence’s dynamic charge. The momentum shifted multiple times during the closing stretch of the back nine. Casey regained a slim margin by sinking a 15-foot birdie putt on the 15th hole. He followed that by maintaining his lead with a 15-foot par save on the par-3 16th.

Arriving at the 18th tee with a one-shot advantage, Casey faced a challenging lie in the right rough. His approach shot came out heavy and landed short of the stream, but the ball struck a rock and bounced over the water into deep rough. Despite the lucky break, he could only chip to within 20 feet of the cup. His subsequent par attempt for the outright win caught the left lip of the hole, forcing the playoff at 18-under par.

Four Holes of Playoff Pressure

The playoff took place entirely on the 18th hole, where Casey had four distinct opportunities to secure the title. On the first extra hole, the Englishman missed a 35-foot birdie attempt. During the second trip back to the tee, he narrowly missed a 10-foot birdie putt to the right side of the cup.

Tournament officials relocated the pin toward the back of the green for the third playoff hole. Casey faced an 8-foot birdie putt for the win, but the ball spun off the right edge of the hole. On the fourth extra hole, Lawrence capitalized on his first clear chance, dropping his 18-foot birdie putt and celebrating with a series of arm pumps. The South African has now captured three European Masters titles within the last five years.

Leaderboard and Race to Dubai Standings

Harry Hall of England secured third place alone after closing the tournament with a 7-under 63. Further down the leaderboard, Patrick Reed shot a 66 to finish in a tie for 11th place. This performance allowed Reed to slightly increase his lead over Rory McIlroy in the Race to Dubai standings. McIlroy, who did not compete this week, is scheduled to return to action at the Irish Open next week.

Reflecting on the victory, Lawrence noted the difficulty of the comeback, stating he fought hard throughout the day while acknowledging Casey's high level of play.
