The Oklahoma City Thunder traded two future second-round picks to the Sacramento Kings to acquire 24-year-old wing Nique Clifford.
The Oklahoma City Thunder acquired second-year wing Nique Clifford from the Sacramento Kings on Sunday in exchange for a 2028 Utah Jazz second-round pick and a 2030 Minnesota Timberwolves second-round pick. Clifford, who is 24 years old, carries a $3.2 million salary for the current season and is scheduled to earn $3.4 million next year. The Kings initially selected Clifford at No. 24 in the 2025 draft after trading a top-16-protected 2027 San Antonio Spurs first-rounder to Oklahoma City to move up for the pick.
Oklahoma City executed the trade to address significant backcourt losses. Starters Cason Wallace and Jalen Williams are expected to miss several months, and potentially the remainder of the season, following injuries sustained in a late October game against the LA Clippers. Wallace suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder, while Williams sustained a fractured left fibula and a dislocated left ankle. Despite these absences, the Thunder currently hold an 8-2 record.
Sacramento sought the deal to clear a roster spot following a 1-8 start to their season. Clifford had fallen out of coach Doug Christie’s rotation despite injuries to other Kings players. The move marks a return for Clifford to the organization that held his draft rights before the 2025 draft-day trade that originally sent him to the Kings as general manager Scott Perry's first transaction.
