Oklahoma City Thunder guard Cason Wallace has agreed to a five-year, $139 million rookie-scale contract extension, according to agents Jeff Schwartz, Max Lipsett, and Marcus Monk of Excel Sports Management. The 22-year-old, who was the No. 10 pick in the 2023 draft, earned second-team All-Defensive honors last season while leading the NBA in total steals with 150. During that campaign, he recorded career highs of 8.6 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.
Wallace has appeared in 227 career games with 114 starts, averaging 7.9 points and 1.5 steals. He has also played in all 48 of the franchise's postseason contests during his tenure. General manager Sam Presti indicated that the decision to trade starting wing Luguentz Dort to the Atlanta Hawks this summer was a gesture of belief in Wallace’s capacity for a larger role on the roster.
With this agreement, 13 of the 14 players currently on the Thunder roster are under contract for the 2027-28 season. ESPN's Bobby Marks projects Oklahoma City will be approximately $26 million over the second apron that year, potentially resulting in a tax bill exceeding $200 million.
