Jaden McDaniels has agreed to a one-year, $40 million extension with Minnesota after recording career highs in points and shooting percentages.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels has agreed to a one-year, $40 million extension that secures his contract through the 2029-30 season. Agents Nima Namakian and Bill Duffy confirmed the agreement to ESPN on Monday, noting the deal allows the 26-year-old to negotiate a subsequent extension as early as 2028. Under the new terms, that future negotiation could start at a salary reaching 140% of his current $40 million figure. The All-Defensive wing previously signed a five-year, $136 million contract in 2023, and Minnesota now has $124 million committed to him over the next four years.

McDaniels is coming off a 2025-26 campaign where he set career highs with 14.8 points per game on 51.5% shooting from the field and 41% from three-point range. His statistical output also included 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks per contest. During the postseason, his scoring average rose to 16.3 points, highlighted by a 32-point performance in a Game 6 victory that eliminated the Denver Nuggets in the opening round.

Originally the No. 28 pick in the 2020 draft, McDaniels led the team in defensive matchups against 2026 All-Stars, ranking fourth-highest in the league according to GeniusIQ. He currently anchors the Timberwolves core alongside Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, and LaMelo Ball. The extension provides McDaniels the option to enter unrestricted free agency as a 10-year veteran in the summer of 2030.
