Linebacker Cedric Gray entered the NFL's concussion protocol after sustaining minor injuries and a concussion during a UTV accident in Tennessee.

Tennessee Titans linebacker Cedric Gray has been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol following a UTV accident over the weekend. Gray, who led the team with 164 tackles across 16 starts last season, was the driver of the vehicle during the incident in Tennessee. According to a team statement released Monday, the linebacker sustained a concussion and other minor injuries.

A team source informed ESPN that the accident did not involve reckless driving or alcohol. To return to action, Gray must complete a multiphase return-to-participation program. This process requires an examination by an independent neurological consultant assigned to the Titans to confirm the injury has resolved.

If cleared by both the consultant and team physicians, Gray could be available for the season opener against the New York Jets this Sunday at Nissan Stadium. The Titans expressed in their statement that they look forward to the linebacker returning to full health once he clears the league-mandated protocol.
