Tommy Tremble caught two touchdowns in the Panthers' 25-14 win but drew a taunting flag for pointing at Cooper DeJean.
The Carolina Panthers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 25-14 at Lincoln Financial Field behind two receiving touchdowns from tight end Tommy Tremble. In the fourth quarter, Tremble secured a 19-yard game-sealing pass from Bryce Young, who has now thrown 11 touchdowns through five games. Immediately following the score, Tremble pointed at All-Pro defensive back Cooper DeJean, resulting in a taunting penalty. This infraction forced a 48-yard extra point attempt, which kicker Ryan Fitzgerald missed wide right.
Tremble stated the gesture was retaliation for a personal foul DeJean committed on the previous play against fellow tight end Mitchell Evans. During a 5-yard run by Chuba Hubbard, DeJean and Evans became entangled, leading to a skirmish where Evans was thrown to the ground. Officials penalized DeJean 15 yards for unnecessary roughness. While Evans described the incident as a "mid-suplex" that caused him to cramp, DeJean claimed Evans was on his back and flipped over him as he tried to stand up.
Tremble finished the contest with four receptions for 46 yards while also lining up at fullback. Despite the win, the fourth-year tight end apologized for the retaliation, acknowledging the "egregious" nature of the initial foul on Evans but admitting his own reaction was uncalled for. Wide receiver Jalen Coker credited Tremble as the "heart and soul" of a Carolina offense that utilized him for both scoring plays and clutch blocks for Hubbard.
