Tour Championship Field: Scheffler Eyes $10M Prize and Third Season Win

The Tour Championship field arrives at East Lake Golf Club to compete for a $10 million winner's share of a $40 million purse. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler enters the finale seeking his third victory of the season, a feat that would likely secure his fifth consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year award. Scheffler recently tied for 12th at 7 under during the BMW Championship in St. Louis despite battling hand, foot, and mouth disease. Historically, he has excelled at East Lake, opening with scores of 65 or better in three of his last four appearances, including a 65 during his 2024 FedEx Cup victory.

Wyndham Clark sits at No. 2 in the rankings after winning the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club. Clark gained 5.64 strokes on approach, ranking second in that field, and 4.35 strokes on the greens. His season includes victories at the U.S. Open and the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. Rory McIlroy follows at No. 3, coming off a third-place finish at 13 under in St. Louis, where a bogey on the par-5 17th ended his title hopes. McIlroy is making his ninth straight appearance at East Lake, the longest active streak on the PGA Tour.

Top Contenders at East Lake

Xander Schauffele holds the best scoring average at East Lake since 2021 at 66.9. The two-time major winner has recorded seven top-five finishes in eight starts at this course and has never finished worse than a tie for seventh. Collin Morikawa enters the week after tying for fourth at 12 under in the BMW Championship. In the 2024 Tour Championship, Morikawa posted the low gross score of 22 under, excluding starting strokes. Russell Henley, the lone former University of Georgia golfer in the field, previously carded a 9-under 62 in the 2024 final round and a 9-under 61 in last year's opening round.

Patrick Cantlay, the 2021 FedEx Cup champion, finished as the solo runner-up in St. Louis and currently sits 13th in the Presidents Cup points standings. He tied for second at East Lake last year, three strokes behind Tommy Fleetwood. Si Woo Kim ranks second on tour in approach at .733 and fifth in strokes gained: total at .228. Matt Fitzpatrick, a three-time winner this season, returns to Atlanta after a two-year absence, having tied for ninth in 2023. Ludvig Åberg is making his third consecutive Tour Championship appearance in three seasons, recently tying for ninth at The Open. Viktor Hovland, the 2023 FedEx Cup winner, secured his spot by winning the Travelers Championship in a playoff on June 28.

Chris Gotterup ranks seventh in Presidents Cup points and averages 322.6 yards off the tee. Tom Kim moved from 110th to 29th in the FedEx Cup standings following a win at the Genesis Scottish Open and a third-place finish at the U.S. Open. Cameron Young enters with victories at the Players Championship and Cadillac Championship, though he lost 5.6 strokes on the greens in his last start. Hideki Matsuyama makes his 12th appearance in 13 seasons, while Adam Scott returns on the 20th anniversary of his East Lake victory.

Gary Woodland qualifies for the first time since 2019 following brain surgery, coming off a tie for fourth in the BMW Championship. Robert MacIntyre reached the field by tying for seventh in St. Louis after withdrawing from the previous event due to a Baker's cyst.
