The PWHL hired Alison Izzi as general manager of the Vancouver Goldeneyes on Tuesday, filling the league's final coaching and front office vacancy ahead of its fourth season. Izzi, an attorney specializing in hockey matters, replaces Cara Gardner Morey, who vacated the GM role in July to become the team's head coach. This appointment brings the total number of female general managers in the 12-team league to nine.
Izzi joins the organization following a tenure as a clerk in the NHL legal department, where she focused on player safety and hockey operations. Her professional background also includes serving as the AHL vice president of hockey operations and governance, a role that involved work on collective bargaining and legal committees.
She inherits a roster that finished its second season with a 9-18-3 record, resulting in a last-place finish and the dismissal of former coach Brian Idalski. The Goldeneyes recently added U.S. national team defender Caroline Harvey to the lineup after selecting her with the No. 1 overall pick in the June draft. The upcoming PWHL season is scheduled to begin in late November or early December.
