Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany collapsed during a reserve training session on Friday and may be sidelined for weeks while undergoing medical testing.

Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is in stable condition but faces a potential absence of weeks following a collapse during a reserve team training session on Friday. Board member for sport Max Eberl confirmed on Saturday that the 40-year-old Belgian is undergoing further testing to determine the cause of the incident. While initial tests have yielded some results, doctors are still working to establish a specific diagnosis and recovery timeline.

Kompany had been managing a viral infection since last week, which assistant Aaron Danks noted had affected the coach's legs. The illness previously forced Kompany to remain seated throughout a 6-1 victory over Leipzig and led to his absence from a Tuesday training session and pre-game news conference. Although he returned to the dugout for Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal, Kompany later admitted he had failed to heed physical warning signs while attempting to push through the infection.

Eberl stated that the club will not set a specific timeframe for his return until the underlying issue is identified, noting that the recovery period will be measured in weeks rather than days. The former Burnley manager, who has won two German league titles since joining Bayern in 2024, is currently nominated for the Johan Cruyff Trophy. Bayern Munich is scheduled to visit Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday without their head coach.
