Yaxel Lendeborg scored 12 points in his professional debut as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 127-105 on opening night.

The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Golden State Warriors 127-105 on opening night behind a dominant offensive performance that included 36 points in the third quarter. Golden State rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, starting in place of the injured Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, recorded 12 points and four fouls in 29 minutes. During his professional debut, Lendeborg served as the primary defender on Luka Doncic, holding the Lakers star to 1-of-6 shooting in those specific matchups.

Despite the defensive statistics, the Lakers built a 35-point lead and Doncic punctuated the first half with a 48-foot buzzer-beating heave off the backboard to put Los Angeles up by 14. Tensions escalated late in the second quarter after Doncic drew a shooting foul on a pump-fake, leading to a verbal exchange that resulted in a technical foul for Lendeborg with 31 seconds remaining in the half. Official James Capers issued the penalty after Lendeborg repeatedly told Doncic he could not score on him.

Following the game, Lendeborg stated he "lost all respect" for Doncic, citing the veteran's frequent complaining to officials and foul-baiting tactics. While Warriors coach Steve Kerr criticized the decision to only penalize the rookie during the exchange, teammate Draymond Green supported Lendeborg’s aggressive approach. Lendeborg is the first Warriors rookie to start on opening night since James Wiseman in 2020. The two teams are scheduled for a rematch on Oct. 30 in San Francisco.
