Deshaun Watson directed a game-winning drive for the third consecutive game as the Cleveland Browns defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 27-24 on Thursday night. Andre Szmyt converted a 56-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining to break a 24-24 tie. The victory moves Cleveland to 3-1 and gives the team sole possession of first place in the AFC North for the first time since November 2014. Watson finished the game with 855 passing yards through four games this season, including a first half where he threw for 181 yards and led three straight second-quarter touchdown drives.
The Browns held a 21-10 halftime lead, but Pittsburgh rallied in the second half following two Cleveland turnovers. T.J. Watt stripped Watson on a rush attempt in the third quarter, and Watson threw an interception early in the fourth quarter after the pass was tipped. Aaron Rodgers tied the game for the Steelers with a 3-yard touchdown pass to Pat Freiermuth and a subsequent 1-yard sneak for a 2-point conversion. Watson responded by completing four straight passes to set up the winning kick. Grant Delpit intercepted a final pass from Rodgers to end the contest.
Cleveland has now won eight consecutive Thursday night games, the longest active streak in the NFL, and five straight home games against Pittsburgh. Watson is the second Browns quarterback since 1970 to lead game-winning drives in three straight games, joining Brian Sipe. Through four weeks, Watson has completed 69.6% of his passes with six touchdowns and two interceptions.
