The Chicago White Sox secured their first postseason series win since 2005 by defeating the Houston Astros 7-3 to complete a two-game sweep.

The Chicago White Sox advanced to the American League Division Series after defeating the Houston Astros 7-3 on September 30, 2026, winning the Wild Card series 2-0. Chase Meidroth provided the decisive blow with a three-run home run off Bryan Abreu in the sixth inning following a double steal. Chicago established an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, while Houston’s offense was limited to solo home runs by Jose Altuve and JP Peña. Reliever Anthony Kay halted a fifth-inning Astros threat by retiring Yordan Alvarez on a fly ball with two runners on, followed by a Jose Altuve flyout that left the bases loaded. Alvarez finished the series with one single in eight at-bats.

In the National League, the Philadelphia Phillies evened their series against the Atlanta Braves 1-1 with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings. Alec Bohm hit a go-ahead solo home run to right field in the top of the 10th off Didier Fuentes. The Phillies forced extra innings by hitting back-to-back home runs in the eighth inning; Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper both went deep against Dylan Lee. Rookie Andrew Painter earned the win by pitching three scoreless innings of relief, concluding the game by striking out Dominic Smith.

In ongoing American League action, the New York Yankees hold a 2-0 lead over the Boston Red Sox. Luis García Jr. opened the scoring with a home run, and Cody Bellinger added an RBI single to right field. Willson Contreras later hit a home run for Boston to cut the deficit to 2-1. Before the game, Clay Bellinger, a member of the 1999 and 2000 championship teams, threw the ceremonial first pitch to his son, Cody.
