The Vancouver Whitecaps (18-8-7) secured their largest margin of victory in series history with a 5-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC (11-12-10) on Sunday. Brian White opened the scoring with a header in the 1st minute off assists from Bruno Caicedo and Ryan Gauld. Gauld extended the lead to 2-0 in the 9th minute following a pass from Édier Ocampo, before Mathias Laborda headed in a third goal in the 43rd minute to match his career high of five in a season.
White increased the advantage to 4-0 in the 53rd minute, marking his 19th goal of the campaign and the 102nd of his career. This strike was assisted by Caicedo and Tate Johnson. Seattle's Jordan Morris ended the shutout in the 62nd minute with his second goal of the year, assisted by Albert Rusnák and Hassani Dotson. Aleksa Cvetković capped the scoring in the 69th minute with his second MLS goal, set up by Cheikh Sabaly and Ranko Veselinović.
Yohei Takaoka recorded four saves for Vancouver, while Andrew Thomas stopped five shots for Seattle. The result leaves the Sounders in ninth place—the final Western Conference playoff position—heading into Decision Day on Nov. 7. Seattle must host LAFC to close the regular season, while Vancouver, which had already clinched first place in the West, travels to face Montreal.
