WTA Finals to Relocate to Charlotte in 2027 for Three-Year Term

The WTA Finals will move to the 19,000-capacity Spectrum Center in 2027 as the tour shifts its headquarters to Charlotte, North Carolina.

The WTA Finals will move to Charlotte, North Carolina, for a three-year term beginning in 2027 and concluding in 2029. Matches will be held at the Spectrum Center, a venue with an approximate capacity of 19,000 that currently serves as the home of the NBA's Charlotte Hornets. Alongside the tournament relocation, the WTA will move its corporate headquarters to Charlotte from its current location in St. Petersburg, Florida.

To accommodate the professional basketball schedule, the year-end championships will be reduced from an eight-day format to a five-day event. The WTA is moving away from its traditional licensing fee model to take direct operational control of the tournament's revenue and expenses. This transition follows a period of financial difficulty, with The Telegraph reporting projected operational losses of $23 million this season and $15 million in cash on hand by the end of the year.

The 2026 edition of the event will serve as a transition year, held at Indian Wells, California, from November 8-15. This move to California comes after the WTA and the Saudi Tennis Federation mutually agreed to end a hosting arrangement in Riyadh one year early. The new agreement in North Carolina also establishes a potential path for Charlotte to host a 500-level tournament, which would require the construction of a new first-class facility.
