United States midfielder Yunus Musah has returned to the national team following a period of increased playing time at AC Milan under manager Ruben Amorim. Musah has appeared in all five of Milan’s league matches so far this season, logging 329 minutes. This uptick in form led to his first USMNT recall since March 2025, a stretch during which he was excluded from the U.S. World Cup roster.
In his return to international play, Musah started a 4-1 victory over Peru. He subsequently appeared as a substitute in a 4-2 win against Chile and a 3-0 shutout of Mexico. The midfielder told ESPN that Amorim contacted him via text before preseason to confirm he was an integral part of the club's plans, despite Musah coming off a loan spell at Atalanta where he felt his time was "a waste on the bench."
Musah’s recent involvement follows a difficult 2024-25 cycle. He previously requested that manager Mauricio Pochettino leave him off the 2025 Gold Cup roster to prioritize his family following the birth of his daughter, Yumna. After missing the World Cup, Musah spent the summer in Ghana and Zanzibar before returning to Milan for preseason training. He credited his improved positioning and body shape to lessons learned during his time with Atalanta, despite his lack of minutes at the Bergamo-based club.
