Alex Eala advanced to the final eight in Tokyo by winning the final nine games of her 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Talia Gibson.

Alex Eala secured a spot in the Toray Pan Pacific Open quarterfinals by defeating Australia's Talia Gibson 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 on Wednesday evening in Tokyo. The 21-year-old Filipina left-hander finished the match by winning nine consecutive games, including a third-set bagel. This victory brings Eala’s record in the current Asian swing to 3-3 following a previous first-round win over Mika Stojsavljevic.

Gibson claimed the opening set 6-4 after breaking Eala in the eighth and tenth games. Despite Eala leading the first set in aces 4-2, the Australian won the points scored on returns category 13-9. The momentum shifted in the second set when Eala broke Gibson in the opening game and later secured a decisive break in the seventh game to lead 5-2 before forcing a decider.

During the final set, Eala utilized her forehand to break Gibson in the first and third games, establishing a 3-0 lead. The world No. 19 converted every opportunity in the closing stretch to eliminate the 22-year-old Australian. Eala now advances to face Russian Diana Shnaider, who previously defeated the Filipina 7-5, 6-4 during the round of 16 at the Ningbo Open last week.
