Alexis Mac Allister Addresses Liverpool Contract Status and Messi's Argentina Legacy

Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister confirmed he has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract following a summer where he opted to stay at Anfield.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister confirmed to ESPN that no firm decision has been made regarding his future, noting he has two years remaining on his current contract. The 27-year-old remained at Anfield during the summer transfer window despite having opportunities to depart. Earlier this month, the Argentine expressed he felt "very sad" after not being offered a new deal, particularly as midfield teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai were granted new terms.

Mac Allister is scheduled to return to club action for Liverpool against Manchester City at Anfield on Oct. 11 following the international break. The former Brighton player stated that while he hopes to remain with the club for more years, he intends to give his all during the time he has left at what he described as one of the best clubs in the world.

Regarding the Argentina national team, Mac Allister backed 39-year-old Lionel Messi to win this year's Ballon d'Or following his performance in the World Cup. He noted that the national squad must grow stronger as a collective to prepare for a future without Messi, who holds the record for most goals (125) and most appearances (207) for Argentina. Mac Allister emphasized that the team will need to adapt to the absence of the player who previously made the difference in matches.
