The Athletics hired Cam Castro, a 36-year-old former Milwaukee Brewers executive, to serve as the franchise's new general manager.
Athletics president of baseball operations Taylor Smith announced the hiring of Cam Castro as the team's new general manager on Wednesday. Castro, 36, joins the organization from the World Series champion Milwaukee Brewers, where he spent eight years. In his most recent role, he served as senior vice president of player development and performance, acting as the primary link between the front office and coaching staff.
This appointment marks the first major personnel move by Smith since he assumed his role two weeks ago. The Athletics are restructuring their leadership following a 64-98 season and ahead of a planned relocation to Las Vegas in 2028. Smith, who previously worked for the Rays and Red Sox, cited Castro’s track record in building development systems as a primary factor for the hire.
The organization is currently in a transitional phase regarding its home venue. The team is scheduled to play the 2027 season at a Triple-A ballpark in West Sacramento, California, which will be their third and final year at that location before the move to Nevada. Castro stated he will focus on establishing a new culture and organization as the franchise begins its next chapter.
