Austin Smotherman shot a 3-under 68 on Sunday to finish at 26-under 258, securing a two-shot victory in his 100th career start.
Austin Smotherman carded a final-round 3-under 68 at Black Desert Resort to win the Bank of Utah Championship with a record-setting total of 26-under 258. Making his 100th career start, the 32-year-old finished two strokes ahead of runner-up Doug Ghim. The victory provides Smotherman with a two-year PGA Tour exemption and eligibility for the 2028 Championship Series.
Smotherman established an early three-shot lead on Sunday following a 35-foot birdie on the par-4 fifth hole and two tap-in birdies. His lead narrowed to a single stroke after he recorded a double bogey on the 13th hole, where his approach shot plugged in a bunker. Trace Crowe briefly pressured the lead by sinking a 40-foot eagle putt on the 14th, but Smotherman responded by hitting his tee shot on the same hole to within 6 feet to set up a birdie.
Smotherman extended his advantage with a 12-foot birdie putt on the 16th hole before finishing with a bogey-birdie sequence on the final two holes. The win moved him from No. 79 to No. 51 in the FedEx Fall standings, positioning him for entry into signature events at Pebble Beach and Riviera. Ghim finished alone in second place after a final-round 69, which included a three-putt on the 13th and a missed 6-foot par attempt on the 15th.
Trace Crowe (66) and David Ford (64) finished in a tie for third place at the Ivins, Utah, event. Kevin Streelman and Ben James both shot 67 to tie for fifth. The 26-under 258 total set a new 72-hole record for the tournament, which is currently in its third year of operation.
